Microbial pathogens in the wild

Moderator: Stefan Bertilsson

Speakers: Lionel Guy, Karin Troell, Anna Szekely

Microbial pathogens can be transmitted directly between two individuals, but there is often an intermediate step where dispersal and spread is gauged through different environmental matrices such as water, air and soil.

The efficiency of such processes is influenced both by the features of the environment, but also the ability of the pathogens to survive in nature and their various traits for efficient dispersal and in coping with adverse environmental conditions outside the host. In this symposium we will learn about environmental survival and spread of pathogenic bacteria, microbial eukaryotes and viruses from the perspective of scientists active in infection biology, microbiology and ecology.

This session will be held in english
